Staff Advanced Development Engineer
The successful candidate will join CAIRE’s Advance Development Team at the global headquarters in Ball Ground, Georgia and will work on CAIRE’s oxygen therapy medical devices. This position will focus on research and development activities in conjunction with feasibility studies of initial product ideation. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, analytical, detail orientated, and a creative problem solver.
This position is a hands-on engineering position with time spent in the office and engineering laboratory. Some travel may be required to visit/support key suppliers or certified external laboratories. This position will be based out of the Canton/Ball Ground location of CAIRE, which is approximately 30 minutes north of the greater Atlanta, GA area. This is not a hybrid or remote opportunity.

Requirements:
- BS Degree in Engineering-Mechanical or Mechatronics.
- Minimum 8 years engineering experience in the design and manufacturing of electro-mechanical products.
- Working knowledge of computers, including MS Word, Excel, and Office Suite programs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Expertise in the design, commercialization, and manufacturing of electro-mechanical devices.
- Robust understanding of and demonstrated success applying fundamentals within mechanical design; statics, dynamics, pressure vessels and thermal dynamics, tolerance analysis, statistical methods, DoEs and test development.
- High proficiency in CAD software. Solidworks experience is preferred.
- Experienced with various manufacturing process such as: machining, metal fabrication, injection molding, die casting, and molding processes.
- Experience with rapid prototyping of mockup and functional parts and assemblies.
- Ability to identify and analyze complex problems and influence team members, management, and suppliers on recommended solutions.
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings.
- Competency evaluating and generating intellectual property.
Essential Functions:
- Define engineering requirements from user needs and marketing inputs and develop innovative solutions to meet requirements.
- Hand off feasibility design effort to NPD group. Communicate essential design specifications through requirements documents, design reviews, and prototypes.
- Troubleshoot and determine corrective measures for prototype designs and quality defects.
- Develop and perform test protocols to evaluate new designs, product improvements and cost reduction opportunities.
- Design and fabricate prototypes, tooling fixtures, and test benches as required.
- Work in conjunction with Supply Chain to source and optimize material supply chain for cost and design for manufacturability.
- Determine product costing and BOM management through centralized document management system.
- Identify and resolve product assembly issues to improve product consistency and eliminate variance in conjunction with production and manufacturing engineering.
- Working within a greater NPD team, ensure that all aspects of new product introduction, and changes to existing products, are properly communicated to production personnel. Prepare and communicate ECO and/or TDD changes to production.
- Interface with various departments in coordinating technical information relating to specific projects or regarding quality issues.
- Observe and practice safety procedures and policies.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Travel:
Yes, Travel up to 10% per year.
Preferred Requirements:
- Medical Device background a plus.
- Understanding of production metrics and Six Sigma.
- Understanding of Medical Device design control processes and associated ISO standards compliance (60601, 13485, etc.) preferred.
- Awareness and understanding of Company quality standards, capital equipment, procurement, FMEA, APQP, ISO 9001 knowledge and experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading engineering projects and subsystem design efforts.
- CFD and FEA experience is a plus.
Your Physical Work Environment Will Require:
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting and occasional crawling.
- Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.), occasional heavier lifting.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, and handling of materials.
